This beginner guide covers the first session on a typical public server (about six players). You will learn what to buy first, how to think about paths into the egg, and how cash from stopped dinosaurs turns into a stable fort. Minute-by-minute first session

0–2 minutes: orient

1. Confirm you loaded Build a Dino Defense by Big Chomp Games (not a similarly named builder).
2. Locate your egg and the open ground dinosaurs will use.
3. Find the shop / build tools for traps, turrets, and fort pieces.
4. Note where cash displays so you can track income per wave.

If a short tutorial flashes, finish it. Menus and placement tools often unlock afterward.

2–8 minutes: first choke, not a palace

Resist the urge to outline a huge rectangle. Early dinos punish vanity walls.

• Pick one approach you will allow toward the egg.
• Block accidental side gaps with cheap fort pieces.
• Place your first traps on the tiles dinosaurs must cross.
• Add a turret only when it has a clean line of sight down that lane.

8–20 minutes: earn, then upgrade what already works

Cash arrives when you stop dinosaurs. That creates a healthy loop:

1. Survive a wave with the choke intact.
2. Spend on upgrading the trap/turret that saw the most traffic.
3. Keep a small cash buffer for emergencies.
4. Only then widen the fort or add a second turret angle.

Expect shop unlock progression as you play — exact prices shift with patches, so treat unlock order as “cover the egg’s weakest tile first,” not a fixed spreadsheet.

20+ minutes: crates and personal weapons

The only fail condition that matters

You can lose walls, traps, and pride. You cannot replace a eaten egg mid-run the way you replace a fence. Play every spending decision backward from the egg:

• Does this purchase reduce the chance a dino reaches the egg this wave?
• Does it fix a path that already leaked?
• Or does it only look nicer from the lobby camera?

If the answer is cosmetic, wait.

Early buy order (flexible template)

Community runs often converge on a similar early priority even when shop labels differ:

1. Path control — close side routes into the egg.
2. Floor punishment — traps on the forced lane.
3. Lane DPS — one turret covering the funnel mouth.
4. Upgrades on hot pieces — invest where dinos already walk.
5. Weapon from crates — clean stragglers and elites.
6. Expansion — second layer or longer maze only after stability.

Mark uncertain patch specifics carefully: if a new trap tier appears in the shop, test it on the live lane before mass replacing working basics.

Cash management habits that save runs

• Do not zero out after every kill streak. A denser wave can arrive before your next income spike.
• Upgrade before spam. Two strong tiles beat six weak ones scattered around the plot.
• Spend between waves when the UI is calm; panic buys during a breach create misclicks.
• Watch neighbors for timing cues — if several forts upgrade at once, a harder stretch may be coming.

Reading dinosaur pressure

Early waves teach telegraphing:

• Light packs test whether your choke is actually sealed.
• Faster dinos punish long scenic mazes without damage.
• Tankier dinos demand stacked DPS on the same tiles, not a single lonely trap.

Co-op awareness on six-player servers

You defend your egg, but public servers feel social:

• Do not block other players’ build access with troll placements if the tools allow grief.
• Learn from a strong neighbor’s funnel width, then rebuild yours deliberately.
• If voice or chat calls out a tough wave, finish your critical upgrade before experimenting.
